Rain
It's raining in the Ozarks today. We need it soooo much.
Do you use the term "in our neck of the woods"...?
What other terms, that are a little odd, do you use?
Do you like to see things like that in a book? Does it comfort you, make the story feel more natural?
When I go to writer's workshops, they continually say to avoid cliches, but some days I find them "homespun" and more realistic. But that's me.

I made popcorn balls today, and maybe for the first time ever, I didn't put food coloring in the mix. Popcorn balls are sorta boring without the color. They taste good, though.
The recipe is super simple: corn syrup and sugar in equal parts, 1 cup of each, add a half stick of butter. Boil until you drop a bit in a cold cup of water and it forms a nice ball.
Do you have any simple, but fun, recipes to share?

Relationships
I was watching Daily Buzz, news with a sense of humor, and they mentioned a website called headdrama.com and an interesting article there about relationships. If you're bored, you might want to go over and check that out.
Head Drama. Why is there so much of that these days?

I am grateful for the Liebster Award nomination. (See comments below the last post). I'm a little challenged with graphics posting and apologize...but mostly I apologize for the inability to follow through because the link to the graphic doesn't work. If you know where I can get it, please point me to it.
I am now in search of blogs to pay it forward to. If you have a blog you love that you think has fewer than 200 followers, point me to it, please.

Reading and Writing
I'm reading Diana Gabaldon's Outlander. I'm about halfway through the 800+ page book. My daughter Cheyenne recommended it. I find the story good, albeit a bit wordy on the weed and herb collecting. It's funny, because I often write characters that are healers, who work with herbs. So, I should probably be taking notes.
My question to you, do you like that in a story?

Jennifer, I've nominated you for the Liebster Award, which is basically a way of recommending blogs you like and encouraging people who follow you to look at them. It's a bit complicated, but this is how it works, as far as I can gather:
The Liebster is a pay-it-forward kind of award, meaning that once you receive the award, you pass it on to others. The rules are as follows:
Thank the person that gave you the award in a post on your own site
Nominate up to five blogs with less than 200 followers
Let the nominees know they’ve won by leaving a comment on one of their posts
Add the Liebster image (you can cut and paste it from http://londoneats.files.wordpress.com/2012/04/liebster-award) so all your readers know that you are generally awesome
*Note: There is no general committee that bestows this award. It’s just a recognition from one blogger to another for how awesome they are. Kinda like a really big Internet hug!

The link doesn't work. Where do I go to get this photo to post?
Jennifer, I had the same problem. I thought that stupid link would help. I found it by googling Liebster. One of the first links will get you to it. Sorry this such a pain in the butt.

Looking toward new prospects
So, hey, I realized I've completely neglected this blog--if anyone is tuned into it--because I've been on Facebook. There just isn't enough time in the day to be on every social site and write. So, I find my writing suffering. Oh, I've been writing a ton of poetry, but I know you're not really interested in that.
Right now, I'm promoting my Carys Weldon title Candy's Kisses. I posted about the story clear back when I was writing it.
I am now looking to sell a story I wrote that is a g rated romance currently titled A Wife To Be Faithful To. I need some help with a cuter/shorter title. I know it's a lot to ask, considering you haven't read the story. But, if you email me with A WIFE TO BE FAITHFUL TO in the subject line, I may send you a copy of the story to preview. So, if you're into sweet romance and would like to tell me what you think of this new novel, please email me at JENNtheRICHwriter@centurytel.net.Labels: A Wife To Be Faithful To, Candy's Kisses

My newest novel
As for the JANO, write a 50k word novel in the month of January, I'm moving slow. Unbelievably slow.
So, I've come up with Katrina, a cowgirl type who owns a ranch (compliments of my mom's suggestions), in New Mexico (compliments of my husband's suggestion), and there's this guy named Jonah (compliments of a friend named Paulyne). And, from there, I need more help. My friend Ruby mentioned that NEW MEXICO is crawlin' with indians (she's a Navajo hailing from down there.) So, there will be indians in this novel. My friend Jen suggested Katrina make some prickly pear cactus jam at some time, so you can look forward to that in the book--and I plan to include the recipe.
Any more suggestions?
